A brief history......The first match was played in 1908 with the proceeds being shared between the 3 local hospitals in the Cheshunt/Waltham Cross area:-The Prince of Wales,Waltham Abbey and Cheshunt Cottage (all of which have now long since closed). The annual match was founded by local shopkeepers and businessmen and was originally played at the Cheshunt Recreation Ground in Albury Ride-which is now behind Cheshunt FC (Cheshunt Cricket Club now play there). After the Second World War the match was transferred to the Waltham Cross Playing Fields where the match remains to this day. The proceeds are now split between 3 local charities,Cheshunt Age Concern,Isabel Hospice Specialist Nurses,The (Herts & Essex Border Branch of)The Friends of the Samaritans. Last year £4,200 was raised throughout the year for the charities.
